The Experience
Aurora chasing is not a matter of choosing a location and waiting. The lights move across valleys, over fjords, and behind cloud banks. On good nights they are overhead; on others, they require a drive of 100 kilometres to find clear sky. Our guide does both.
The departure time varies with the forecast, typically between 8 pm and midnight, returning well after 2 am on an active night. You will receive a briefing on aurora photography at the start of the evening; no specialist equipment is needed, though we can arrange a dedicated photography guide if you want more time behind the lens.
Season
The aurora season runs from late September to early April. The darkest nights, and statistically the most active, fall in December and January. Clear skies are most frequent in the shoulder months.
